"Botox injections help ease tennis elbow"

(16 Jun 2008) Tariq from Private Hospital writes,

"BOTOX as a tennis elbow " TREATMENT" is a misleading term. As botox can really reduce pain at the elbow through its action as neurotoxin, at the same time patient should know that there is a possibility of 25% temporary fore arm and finger paralysis. BUT in fact "TREATMENT" is to achive healing of the lesion which is not gained by BOTOX."

"Dyslexia program tests positive"

(02 Jun 2008) Karyn writes,

"Up until recently my son has been part of the Dore program. He has completed 8 months from the 18 months program. as you might be aware the program has gone into receivership and as a result we are unable to complete the program. My son is 10 years old and suffers with Asperges/Dyslexia. he is most emotional about not being able to continue with his treatment as he himself saw his improvements. I woudl dearly appreciate any advice on who we can continue similar treatment with as we are now trying manage this interruption. My son feels this will set him back and suffers more with confidence at not being able to complete the program.

I look foward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Regards,

Karyn"

"The O'Neil Naltrexone Implant"

(19 May 2008) June writes,

"Please note that while Dr O'Neil is working hard to help people with alcohol and drug addiction I have been informed by a close friend who lives on the Gold Coast and was treated recently at a Broad Beach Clinic that her naltrexone implant cost the cool sum of $12.000, yes, twelve thousand australian dollars! l I think this is something that should be investigated. Thank you for your attention, sincerely, June."

"The doctor many believe can cure cancer"

(18 May 2008) Deborah writes,

"Over the past few weeks I have been into everything, Dr John Holt, radio therapy and checked out other countries that have this therapy. My husband has advanced prostate cancer and we will be going to Perth!!! Even if he isnt fully cured and gets a few more years (i believe in Dr Holt's radiowave therapy) I will know we gave it our best shot no matter the cost. Life is precious and conventional medicine can't help so the house goes on the market so to speak. Isn't it sad that our goverment doesn't want to help get this clinic up and running like America is for their Dr john Kanzius. As usual with Australia its the money grab from the chemical companies. Cancer is a very big money spinner !!!!!"

"Radical new relief for eczema sufferers"

(07 May 2008) Angela writes,

"I have suffered from dermatitis and eczema for the last 30 years. I have had to use steroid creams probably too much, however recently i have found a natural honey product available from chemists and health food stores that helps tremendously with decreasing itchiness and inflammed areas. There is an antibacterial honey which has allowed me to not need antibiotics. It's called MediHoney."

"Sleeping drug 'causes overeating'"

(30 Apr 2008) anonymous writes,

"When Stilnox first began to be promoted in Australia, I guess I was innocent about such medicine. However, when the doctor picked up that I was a flight attendant, I got an instant script (perhaps Sanofi Aventis' rep hung around that day ???) I actually went to the doctor about a cold. Anyway, originally there was no leaflet in the stilnox packet - just printed instructions to take 1-2 when required written on the pack. Apparently Zolpidem isn't addictive. I found out that it is very addictive. Basically due to the rebound insomnia and anxiety that occurs for the next few days. If you have to function (ie, work!) the withdrawal symptoms leave you with little choice but to return to taking stilnox. It becomes a downward spiral. I, personally, checked into a drug rehab centre to get of the "supposedly mild" Stilnox. And, while I can't claim I've ever even considered taking heroin, my withdrawals were on par with the overacted "heroin withdrawals" you see on movies. Believe me, this drug must be taken so, so cautiously. Hopefully, it'll be banned before it ruins your life too."

"Botox found to ease pelvic pain"

(09 Apr 2008) Tina writes,

"Had a hysterectomy and was told I had IC after it, also had bladder hydrostention. Have 4 children and have lived with the pain for about l5 yrs. Have gone to many drs. and tried different diets and meds. I am in constant pain and it controls my life. A few months ago I went to a pain center and they put me on Opana and anxiety meds and they have helped by taking the edge off the pain. They feel I have I.C. and Pudendal Neuralagia.
I am going to have Botox next week. I have had 3 nerve blocks and only one gave me one day of no pain but very bad spasms, which I have if I don't take my meds. The Botox is not covered by my insurance so I don't know how many I can have. I can't imagine being without pain. I can't wait to have my shot and pray it works and I feel normal once again.
Stay well and never give up hope."

"'Blueberry Punch' could fight off prostate cancer, research shows"

(31 Mar 2008) Julia from a private practising dietitian writes,

"As an independent Dietitian myself, I can see the point of the dietitian who was interviewed. It is important to look for many answers to this horrific disease. There is no single answer and if companies other than the multinational drug companies are prepared tp put their products to the test - then good on them. The dietitian interviewed said if there is a combination of foods that can achieve tumour reduction without the side effects of the drug, why wouldn't you delve into that arena. It is the job of a dietitian and nutritionist to look at the evidence, in this case Sydney University's trials, and decide whether it could provide a practical solution. Obviously with Cancer there needs to be a range of bullets but thank god someone other than a pharmaceutical giant is looking."

"Hormone replacement of ageing process"

(16 Mar 2008) Maureen from Retired biochemist and consumer writes,

"*This was a brief, and largely uninformative, cameo on the use of bio-identical hormones. The fact that millions of dollars are being "raked in" by the manufacturers (generally, compounding pharmacists) speaks volumes for the acceptance of these therapies by consumers. Where are the counterbalancing arguments and complaints from them that they cause harm or are ineffective? The population is confused about the terms, "natural" and "bio-identical"; this confusion has been used to obfuscate, to smear the perception that bio-identical is, indeed, natural even if it is manufactured in the lab'. Double blind clinical trials, ("scientific evidence") is for non bio-identical compounds that are likely to be seen as foreign and toxic by the body. The regulator should ensure that what is purchased from the compounding pharmacist is true to the prescription, and that exhorbitant costs are not being incurred by the consumer."

"Fish oil 'wards off asthma'"

(10 Mar 2008) Michelle writes,

"Be careful with fish oil and asthma. I am painfully reminded of why the two don't mix for me ...My asthma generally occurs when mucus is being expelled from the lungs. Once the mucus is expelled, the asthma passes.

A few days ago I tried fish oil again for a scalp condition. I was also having an asthma episode, but didn't think anything of it. Within a couple of days my breathing became seriously laboured and I spent one whole night up in fear of going off to sleep and not waking up.

Then I remembered I had been through this all before. I reasoned then, and again now, that EPA thins the blood and interferes with the expellant process of the lungs. Hence the mucus stays dangerously lingering in the lungs, gurgling and weazing - but is never expelled whilst on the fish oil capsules.

So I stopped the fish oil and within a couple of days I get a nice present of chunky mucus coughed up in a noisy, but welcome, display.

Ergo, my asthma is a necessary process to expelling mucus from the lungs - and fish oil inhibits the process and makes an acute case of asthma turn into a dangerous, chronic and more permanent one.

I know that fish oil thins the blood because wounds sometimes are very slow to heal and the blood doesn't clot quickly.

For the record, I am 40 years old and had medicated asthma all through childhood up until age 25 - when I developed food allergies. Since adopting a more natural diet, my asthma largely disappeared and I rarely need medication. My asthma appears to be a case of poor digestion: foods that are difficult to digest, and which form chunks on the way down, often cause asthma e.g. red meat. I believe poorly digested bits get into my blood and are expelled in mucus via the lungs. I have been told by one alternative MD that I have leaky-gut.

Also, I found asthma medication was becoming increasingly ineffective and counterproductive - for the same reason of inhibiting the expelling of mucus."
