This story presents the findings from a study into the potential for curcumin - found in tumeric spice - to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes in at risk populations. The story uses independent expert opinion well to clearly state more research is required before a definitive conclusion can be reached, that this product is not available in Australia and that a healthy lifestyle can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. However, there is no mention of any side-effects associated with curcumin capsules.

While this story is not disease mongering, 'pre-diabetes' itself could be seen as disease mongering in that it lowers the thresholds for concern about diabetes.
